We are thrilled to announce that Tene Ariel, from Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, has won the Student Design Challenge with her groundbreaking project, LUNA! This innovative wearable system is set to revolutionise personal safety, especially for women in public spaces.

Why LUNA is a game-changer

Tene’s work has been recognised for its thoughtful approach to tackling the barriers that many women face when using traditional self-defense tools. LUNA integrates a physical device and a smart application, working together to monitor discomfort and provide protective actions.

It offers a unique solution, allowing users to carry a safety tool without feeling vulnerable or projecting fear. It’s intuitive, practical for everyday use, and reacts gradually to escalating stress, helping users feel in control and confident.

Developed through in-depth user research, LUNA addresses key challenges like social perceptions, physical limitations, and cognitive demands. By empowering women to act assertively when needed, LUNA ensures they don’t have to fear uncontrollable reactions in moments of danger.

Setting a new standard in security design

With this victory, Tene Ariel has not only proven the viability of her design but also set a new standard for socially conscious security solutions. LUNA promises to reshape the narrative around personal safety, making a positive impact on individuals and communities.

Congratulations, Tene!

We’re incredibly proud of Tene for this outstanding achievement and excited to see how LUNA will transform real-world security solutions.
